I Finally Did It

Writer: Ema Jane WhiteEma Jane White

For anyone who knows me, you'll know that is has been my dream for quite a number of years to buy myself a Defender. Dont get me wrong, I have loved owning my freelander but she was only ever meant to be a stop gap between my little Fiesta and the Defender 90 of my dreams, to get me used to driving a bigger car daily and to put my foot in the door of Land Rover ownership. Little did I know I'd fall in love with that little Freelander and we'd end up traveling the UK on countless adventures over 3 years.

One morning whilst at work I got an alert that there was a Td5 XS 90 for sale (my DREAM) not very far from where I lived, it was green (my favourite colour) and looked immaculate from the pictures. It was also an 06 so LAST OF the Td5.. I instantly fell in love but thought surely it will be snapped up before I could ever go see it. The weekend came and I was still thinking about that gorgeous 90 I'd found just a few days before. I went out for brunch with a friend and couldn't help but show her and obviously my friends being who they are, she instantly said 'Just go and see it, whats the worst that could happen? You know you want to and I'm going to be no help cause I'll just tell you to go for it' (thanks Em.)

After I'd run a few chores that day I decided to go and have a look, it was only 20 miles away so I though what's the harm.. I'll either go have a look and it'll be nothing like the photos I'd seen, or id go, instantly fall in love and finally have my dream Defender.

When I got there I don't think the dealer was prepared for my knowledge or enthusiasm for this car and started to tell me about the spec and asked me about my interest and also a little about my car. I told him about my adventures and how into landies I actually am and I think he was a little taken aback at just how much I knew.. I mean when he walked out of the door I was laid underneath the car with my phone light on looking at the chassis so at that point he may have had an idea I knew what I wanted..

Anyway.. one thing lead to another and a week later I went and picked up my beautiful Defender. A little bitter sweet as I'd finally achieved this huge goal I'd had for years, but at the same time saying goodbye to my little Emu was heartbreaking. If I could have kept both I would have, but I would 100% buy another Freelander. Highly underrated motor and apart from a few turbo hoses I never really had any issues.

Here's my new baby in all her glory..

Meet Emu 3.0 my beautiful Land Rover Defender 90 Td5 XS.
